AMD joined the trillion-dollar club on Monday, with its market capitalisation topping $1 trillion for the first time as investors piled back into AI chip stocks.
Shares jumped as much as 5% to a record high, and are up roughly 80% this year. AMD is now the sixth-most valuable company in the world, sitting alongside Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet and Broadcom — all trading above $1 trillion — and ahead of Oracle and Eli Lilly, which have fallen back below the threshold.
What set it off
A cascade of positive news: Oracle guided for far stronger-than-expected AI infrastructure revenue, OpenAI committed billions of dollars to UK data centres, and Nvidia disclosed a $1 billion investment in Nokia tied to a new AI-driven radio technology. The market read it as confirmation that AI build-out demand is accelerating, not peaking.
The bigger picture
The trillion-dollar threshold has become the market’s membership badge for AI’s biggest beneficiaries. Nvidia holds pole position as the first company to cross $4 trillion. AMD’s ascent shows investors now believe the AI boom has more than one hardware winner — and the company’s stock has doubled in just over five months since April.
